Event: Latino Health Fair/ Latino Chronic Disease Summit
When: Saturday, October 19, 2019, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM
Where: Bethel Lutheran Church on 312 Wisconsin Ave.
Information: Begun in 1998, the Latino Health Fair is still the only event of its kind in Dane County and
throughout Wisconsin. The health fair offers a number of free screenings to detect diabetes,
hypertension, lipid disorders, cateracts and HIV, among others. In addition to community
resource booths, a plenary session features a topic relevant to disease prevention and multiple
workshops offer a variety of topics such as cardiovascular disease, nutrition, exercise, stress
release, and understanding the U.S. health care system. This event offers a great opportunity
for Latinos to learn about various community services and receive fee health education. Last
year over 150 people attended and benefited from the event.

Event: Latino Teen Health Bash
When: Saturday, December 7, 2019
Information: Started in 2009 as an original idea of Latino Health Council, this event is organized by a
collaboration of several community organizations including the Latino Health Council, the
Latino Children and Family Council and the UW Professional Association of Latinos for Medical
School Access (PALMA). This event aims to reach out to Latino teens on important health issues
presented in a culturally, linguistic, and age appropriate format. About 80 teens participated in
last year’s event.
